sousmonsol asks for no account and no email address, and sets no cookies. Displaying a map nevertheless means requesting images and information from third-party services: here is which ones, and what they receive.
What is sent, and to whom
Vercel Inc.
It hosts the site and its operating logs, and relays point queries and the scanned documents, validated logs and geological logs of boreholes to BRGM. Operates from: United States (run in Europe, Paris region). Its website
BRGM
It provides the maps and answers queries: it receives the area on display, the coordinates of the points clicked, around which it looks for the nearest described borehole, and the identifier of the boreholes whose documents are opened, whose sheet shows the validated log or whose geological log is read. Operates from: France. Its website
IGN (Géoplateforme)
It provides the basemaps and the address search: it receives the area on display, the text searched for and the coordinates of the points clicked. Operates from: France. Its website
Hub’Eau (OFB, BRGM)
It provides groundwater levels and quality: it receives the identifier of the boreholes whose measurements are opened. Operates from: France. Its website
Like any request on the internet, each of these requests carries your device’s IP address. None of these services receives a name, an email address or any identifier specific to sousmonsol.
Rate limiting
Requests for information about a point, and for the scanned documents, validated log and geological log of a borehole, go through the sousmonsol server, which relays them to BRGM. So that a single caller cannot overload these services through the site, the server counts these requests per IP address. The address is kept in memory for one minute at most: it is neither recorded, nor passed on, nor linked to anything else. This processing is based on the site’s legitimate interest in remaining available.
Your location
The “Show my location” button asks your browser for your location, and your browser asks for your consent. The map then centres on that location and queries it like a clicked point: its coordinates go to BRGM, through the site’s server, and to IGN, which looks up its address. They are also written, to within about a metre, into the page address.
Shared links
The page address describes the current view: centre, layers, queried point, to within about a metre. If you share it, its recipient sees that point; after “Show my location”, that is your location. The site keeps nothing of it.
What your browser keeps
To save you typing them again, the last five searches chosen in the search bar (addresses, parcels, boreholes, territories, layers and themes) are kept in your browser (its “local storage”). They are never sent to the site or to anyone else. You can clear them from the search bar by choosing “Clear recent searches”, or with your browser’s browsing data.
It also remembers that you have read the tip about filtering layers, so as not to show it again. This mark never leaves your browser either; it is cleared with your browsing data.
If it has invited you to write to us, it also remembers the day of that invitation, so as not to repeat it before the next day. This date stays in your browser too.
Cookies and audience measurement
No cookies, and no audience measurement or advertising tools.
Your rights
As the site keeps no data about you beyond that one minute in memory, it has nothing to send you or to erase. For the technical logs of the services listed, please contact them directly. If you disagree, you may refer the matter to the CNIL, the French data protection authority: www.cnil.fr.
